The Virtual Channel Network is an untapped resource for a lot of talent. There are several great programs that consistently run on The VCN that contain integral information, but one in particular is THE REEL DEAL. Casting director, Ivy Isenberg, and manager, Ryan Glasgow, take a few minutes out of their day to review reels submitted to them from around the world. You can watch their comments and the reels they are critiquing from home to learn what works and what doesn’t. (Don’t worry, the talent they are criticizing have submitted their work asking for the feedback!)
Good reels are easy for any of us to see. We feel the intensity of the set. We recognize the footage. We get sucked in to each bit the same as we do in a great movie trailer. The laws of physics tell us that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, though, right? And a reel is no different. If you don’t feel the intensity or get sucked into the footage, your reaction will likely be equal and opposite. Let’s hope that no one subscribed to SUCCESS FOR MODELS AND ACTORS has a reel that gives any reaction other than the good kind!
