Remember that adage you heard in school when you said you just "assumed" something? I won't repeat it due to the language factor, but the basic point was that making assumptions makes everyone look stupid in the end!
#7 - Assuming Status Matters
"Don't you know who I am?" isn't a phrase that will take you far. You may be an amazing person in some other aspect of your life. In fact, it may even be relevant to what the character is experiencing or overcoming, but it doesn't mean it matters in the casting room. Keep your "other" life outside of casting and focus on the task at hand. If you're the right fit for the job, they will hire you. If not, your status, connections, or accomplishments won't seal the deal . . . and just might keep you out of the casting room next time!
