There is a time for leisurely conversation, but it might not be during business hours.
#8 -- Response Time
As one casting director recently put it, "If we're calling you, it's not because we want to exchange recipes!" The speed of your response as a talent is crucial to booking the job or being seen at the audition. Demands come down from the top; and each time a demand is passed down, time limits shrink. By the time casting calls the agent, there may be less than 24 hours before a deadline. That means by the time you connect with your agent, you may only have a few hours to get ready and be at your best! [Some markets move more quickly and others more slowly, but the talent who is quick to respond always has the best chance of booking the job!]
Keep connected and respond to your agent's calls or requests immediately. That is -- do so if you're serious about your career. Agents learn quickly who they can count on and who is a loose cannon. When something big is on the line, we naturally hone in on that short list of highly reliable A list talent . . . and it's no coincidence that the names on that list are typically the bigger money earners at the end of the year.
